Private Appointments

Mr Lyons welcomes appointments from private patients experiencing new shoulder conditions and injuries. My staff will need to ask you a number of questions concerning the general nature of your condition, the name of your referring doctor and whether you have private hospital insurance.

This will help them to prioritise your appointment as per guidance from Mr Lyons. He particularly tries to ensure that our triage process allows patients with acute conditions, injuries and fractures to be seen in a prompt manner. The outcome of some surgeries may be compromised by a delay in treatment.

Second Opinion Appointments

Mr Lyons will see patients seeking a Second Opinion on a case by case basis. His staff may request that you provide a copy of your referral and other medical records. If so, they will contact you after Mr Lyons has reviewed this material. They will advise whether a second opinion appointment can then be scheduled.

Allocation of appointments for Work Cover, Transport Accident and Un-Insured Patients may be subject to additional criteria. (See below)

Work Cover Appointments

Mr Lyons offers appointments to patients experiencing new work place conditions or injuries.

He does not routinely offer appointments to WorkCover patients if they have already seen a specialist concerning the same condition. This appointment policy also applies to Work Cover patients who have already had a surgery for that condition performed by another specialist.

Mr Lyons does exercise discretion to offer appointments to Work Cover patients who have already undergone treatment on a case by case basis. He may require you to submit background medical records or test results in order to determine whether he can be of assistance.

Transport Accident (TAC) Appointments

Mr Lyons is able to see Transport Accident patients after new injuries. He makes every effort to see acutely injured patients as a matter of urgency.

He does not routinely offer appointments to Transport Accident patients if they have already seen a specialist concerning the same condition. This appointment policy also applies to Transport Accident patients who have already had a surgery for that condition performed by another specialist.

Patients Without Insurance

Although Mr Lyons does see patients without Private, Work Cover and Transport Accident Insurance, you should be aware that he does not operate at a Public Hospital. Nor is he able to place you on a Public Hospital surgery waiting list. You can choose to pay for your surgery to be performed at a Private Hospital by Mr Lyons. (See FEE POLICY)

However if you want surgery performed at a Public Hospital or are not able to self-fund your surgery at a Private Hospital, it is recommended that your GP refer you directly to a Public Hospital Outpatient Clinic.

Medico-Legal Appointments

Mr Lyons does not generally see patients for the purposes of Medico-Legal  assessments and reports unless by prior arrangement with your legal advisor.

Cancellation Policy

Mr Lyons and his staff understand that unforeseen circumstances or illness may prevent you attending your appointment at the designated time.

However we request that if possible you provide notice of cancellation 24 hours in advance. Alternatively, in exceptional circumstances,  advise my staff at the earliest opportunity. They will re-schedule your appointment for a future date.

Unfortunately patients sometimes fail to attend their appointment without notice or prior cancellation. Under those circumstances, Mr Lyons reserves the right to decline further appointments.
